You are very welcome, but we already have someone called sam, so you 
will need to get a different nick for this project ;). If you know IRC 
then please join us on freenode in #videolan or use the webversion 
here: http://www.videolan.org/support/ and click on IRCWeb. Then we can 
talk a bit more about what you can do to contribute.

a debian version is being maintained by our very own sam.
rpm are also maintained, but not always every release i believe.
Since the project is french i think the translation to french is 
probably good already, but there is tons of work to be done, so please 
join us.
