This is a problem with version 0.6.1 and 0.6.2 on 10.1.x. Either use
0.6.0 http://www.videolan.org/pub/vlc/0.6.0/macosx/vlc-0.6.0.dmg or
wait for 0.6.3, which will fix this problem. or upgrade to 10.2 of
course :)
