Well, the code is part of a plugin (which can thus be easily disabled), so 
the problem here is more about maintainability and code sharing than 
anything else.
Off course code sharing (using a library) would be nice if possible but 
personally I do not mind having this code here as long as somebody is 
willing to maintain it.
