[vlc-devel] libvlc API changes

Based on suggestions by Michael Pron, I would like to propose the 
following additions.
Please review with care. We don't want to have to break this again in a 
next release.

Please give your opinion.
- is the functionality needed/useful?
- is the naming correct
- other solutions to tackle this?
- missing functionality?
- we need a libvlc public versioning.
