The spec file assumes a lot of things about Red Hat that probably
wouldn't work in Suse. I know a lot of the package names are different
in Suse. The only real way to find out is through trial and error. To
build an rpm run 'rpmbuild -ba <filename>' on the spec file.
The %prep script: Basic startup script, erases any old build roots,
makes the new build root, dumps the source file into said directory,
etc. etc.
The %build script. The stuff in there in the mozilla directory is a
workaround that may or may not be needed in Suse. Using %configure
instead of ./configure here will automatically add the
--libdir=/whatever --userdir=/whatever to the configure script. The
makefile is run at the end of that script.
The %install script. Using %makeinstall puts the final build into a
temp directory. This temp directory then becomes the RPM if there are
no errors.
%mozver is the current mozilla directory, i.e. /usr/lib/mozilla-1.6. In
Red Hat, I require the latest version of Mozilla because it's easier to
build and easier to troubleshoot.
Probably the best thing to do is to keep a Suse-exclusive copy of the
.spec file, like vlc.spec.suse like we do with Mandrake.
