Hi Jan,
you should not need to use the setenv-commands. The script runs  
flawlessly at my side without using them (using tcsh though). The  
script can be found in this package besides some other po-files (which  
aren't completely up-to-date):  
<http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/devtools/vlc-po- 
files.tar.gz>. If the script does fail, try to use the tcsh-shell by  
simply typing "tcsh". Notice that GNU Gettext has to be installed to  
run the script.
