Well, VLC will only launch gtk if it doesn't find the wxwindows
interface (or if your preferences are broken). So, you seem to lack
something to compile the wxWindows gui. The output of the configure
script and/or the config.log file should help you to find out what is
wrong (Have you installed the wxWidget headers) ?
