I'll have a closer look at these ASAP (probably after 0.8.4 release).

For the configure option, we'll add for 0.8.5 some options to enable the
bindings. Any of these options should trigger the build of the PIC libs.

vlc-config can be made to output absolute paths by setting the
top_builddir env var :

"top_builddir=${PWD} ./vlc-config --libs builtin"
