[vlc-devel] External Application for controling VLC player

Dear List,
I'm really new with VLC. I need to do a DEMO application using the VLC
player with my own interface... in other words, I need to control the VLC
player from a external application.. the idea is to execute simple
commands like play pre-established items, up and down the volume, etc with
single keys . What are my possibilites? To use sockets, edit the rc.c
file.. ? I suppose this is a trivial question for you, but I would really
like to get some ideas. Maybe any one has an example?
