Do you have any reason not to use DirectShow or V4L2 plugins?

Adding a plugin is done by editing Modules.am in the appropriate modules/
subdirectory, and VLC_ADD_PLUGIN in configure.ac. In your case, that would
fit in modules/access/ where you can already find dshow, pvr, dvb, v4l... as
examples.
