If only it was a fix...

It's an ugly kludge to work around (yet) an(other) obvious bug with 
wxWidgets so-called “Unicode” characters strings implementation. FWIW, 
“broken”, or “painfully flawed” sounds more appropriate to me than 
“Unicode” here.
