Hello

Some vlc developers may be interested to note that we have released a
new version of the Advene software, that uses VLC as its core video
component, and proposes new interaction modalities with audiovisual
material. There follows the announcement.

Advene (Annotate Digital Video, Exchange on the NEt) is an ongoing
project in the LIRIS laboratory (UMR 5205 CNRS) at University Claude
Bernard Lyon 1. It aims at providing a model and a format to share
annotations about digital video documents (movies, courses,
conferences...), as well as tools to edit and visualize the hypervideos
generated from both the annotation and the audiovisual document.
Teachers, moviegoers, etc. can use them to exchange multimedia comments
and analysis about video documents.

The new version of the Advene software has been released. Version 0.20
brings a number of improvements and new features, whose complete list
can be found in the changelog
( http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/advene/trunk/debian/changelog?view=markup ). The most notable features include:

      * a new package format (.azp) allowing to integrate resources
        (files) in packages
      * a GUI overhaul
      * a user-plugin infrastructure

Packages are provided for the Windows platform (through an installer)
and the Debian GNU/Linux distribution. The 0.20 advene version depends
on the VLC player, see the download information on the website for
version dependencies.

advene, please check the website http://liris.cnrs.fr/advene/
