[vlc-devel] creating snapshots

Hi VLC Gurus,

While playing/encoding a video I want to create a few snapshots/key 
frames - at least one. I tried the following command but it did not do 
anything

vlc --vout x11 --image-out-prefix=<prefix> --image-out-ratio=20 <filename>

Any suggestions?
Also, what does --image-out-ratio=20 means??
