Dear Derk-Jan,
I have tested the new 0.6 beta1 windows version of Videolan and I found again this bug :

with Windows XP, tested with a 5yrs old laptop and also with a 2yrs
old PC, when I tried to load a directory with a lot of mp3 files (right click and play with VLC or Add to VLC playlist)
newer versions of VLC have problems:

- Version 0.8.6 beta1 for windows
after loading a lot of mp3 when clicking on the playlist it simply hangs, I cannot do anything but the song still plays.

- Version 0.8.6 - 20060827 nightly build for windows
when trying to load lot of mp3s it crashes, always.

- Version 0.8.5 for windows
when trying to load lot of mp3s it crashes, always.

- Version 0.8.4a
It rocks! no problems at all! it is able to load at once a directory with more than 4000 mp3s in few seconds.
While the 0.8.5 or 0.8.6 it crashes also with 2000 songs....

Thank you for your work, I hope you can fix this problem... I still stay with the 0.8.4a right now...

Subject: VLC media player 0.8.6-test1 beta release

Dear VideoLAN users,

The VideoLAN team is happy to announce the first beta version of VLC
media player 0.8.6. This version is mostly a culmination of bugfixes
and some new supported video/audio/file formats. It is an
intermediate release that we decided to create because the next
version of VLC media player (0.9.0), is turning out to be quite a big
one that's taking longer then expected.

Highlights of the new features and improvements:
  * Support for Windows Media Video 9
  * Support for VP5/VP6 video
  * Support for TTA and Wavpack Lossless audio
  * Improved H264 support
  * Preliminary DVR-ms, MXF and AVI DV Type 1 files support
  * Apple Remote support

You can get a complete list by reading the release notes:
http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/browser/branches/0.8.6/NEWS

Known Issues with 0.8.6-test1:
  * Drag and Drop of files in linux and windows may not work

Binary packages for Windows and MacOS X (ppc & x86) are available. You
can download those and the source code as well on:
http://downloads.videolan.org/pub/videolan/testing/vlc-0.8.6-test1/

Remember that this is a beta version. Please test it heavily and report
bugs. Known bugs are registered in the trac database:
http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/roadmap
If you register you can also file your own bugs.

This beta release's forum thread is located here:

For the VideoLAN team,

Derk-Jan Hartman
