That'd be confusing to the few people using 0.8.6 svn builds but on the
whole it sounds more logical. As some people already pointed out on IRC
during the last few months, our version numbers need to be standardized
to prevent this kind of issues. Something like x.<even number>.y for
stable releases and x.<odd number>.y for developement stuff (like the
kernel) ? Something else ?

Btw, i'm in favor of calling the next major release (what is today svn
TRUNK) 0.9.0.
