[vlc-devel] Build Observations

Hi All,
   
  Just finished working with a friend to get the vlc builds to work for him on windows xp.
   
  We wanted to point out a few things that we found important and hopefully it is okay to report here.
   
  1. Builds uses JAVA_HOME variable and will fail is using backward slashes \ for path but no errors using forward slashes /
   
  2. Had issues using contrib from a week ago due to paths to libraries but understand now is fixed and will verify.
   
  3. In windows code advise doing checks for failures for SetParent() and ClientToScreen() api calls. At least log errors for now so root cause can be found quicker.
   
  4. libvlc.dll may be found elsewhere if in PATH environment variable thus builds can fail because older libvlc.dll might be found. Perhaps during build only libvlc.dll in build should be referenced.
