Yes, I fully intend to add this to the v4l2 access module.  However, the pvr module is such a small change ("low hanging fruit" as they say in the USA) that I thought it more important to possibly get it in before the next release since extending the v4l2 module might take a while.  As a matter of fact, I think the pvr and v4l version 1 modules should be deprecated at some point in time.

As far as I know our v4l2 access module doesn't support encoding cards
yet. So a small change in the pvr module indeed looks easier for the
time being. (I agree that in the long run it'd be better to have
everything v4l2 related in the v4l2 module)
