I personnally created this bug, linking to the bug in glibc
bugs tracking system, which was created after a report by courmisch in
debian bts, who personnally disabled l10n, since this bugfix isn't
enough.

I mean that glibc still crashes.

nightly builds have l10n enabled, it's just disabled when you use a
broken glibc.

You can try updating to unstable glibc (from their cvs), or use another
libc (uclibc ?).

You can patch your glibc, and recompile vlc without the check for
broken glibc, but it will still crash.
