JB,

I have encountered also this issue :
- When you roll the mouse wheel until you reach the top of the playlist and 
you continue, the volume decreases;
- When you roll the mouse wheel until you reach the end of the playlist and 
you continue, the volume increases.

JB, you have done a good job and I appreciated it greatly, even if I am not 
myself a developer.

Anyway, a great effort has to be put on memory segmentation fault.
I am stuck now, even on my 32 bits laptop, and not able to start vlc.

Sorry, but I can only address you since I haven't enough knowledge to exploit 
gdb output.
