Indeed the default value looked much too high..

I thought the idea of HD was that the video should be sharp? And, if the
unsharpness comes from camera focus the filter will be less effective as it
works on a fixed amount of pixels (3x3). For HD I'd say this
filters will only be usable to enhance allready sharp edges.

You _definitly_ want to deinterlace the video first. Most likely event
then the filter will enhance
the deinterlacing artefacts.
