[vlc-devel] how to debug the plugin?

hi,everyone!
I want to write a video output plugin based on directfb, but now it
doesn't work,How can I debug my code? I had used printf,
fprintf(stderr,""), msgErr(),nothing was outputed,also I can't  use gdb
to see how my code works, because I can't set break.
I'll appreciate your reply!
