[vlc-devel] Using vlc to view a http stream?

Hi,

I tried using vlc (0.8.6b) to view a http stream,like this:

$ vlc http://<apache_server>/test.flv

On linux ubuntu,  vlc takes more than 3 minutes before start
displaying the content.
But on windows xp, it only takes 5 seconds.  Does vlc support http
streaming on linux? If yes, why it takes so long before VLC starts
showing content?

I am running this test on same machine (dual boot with ubuntu and
Windows xp) against same apache server on the same network.
