Hi Herman,

  I am using cygwin for windows so not sure if what I recommend will work for any other environment. Also, I am only working with the java bindings and not sure if I were to package for a .exe if it would work. I only use the dlls for the project (around 221 of the files).

  I will send you my configure-vlc.sh which has settings specifically for me at this point. There might be examples on the forum that might be better.

  Regards,
  -Tony

  I tried to use my version of VLC to view a wmv file, but it still fails with the error:

$ vlc ~/Desktop/WindowsMedia.wmv
VLC media player 0.8.6b Janus
[00000507] main dialogs provider error: no dialogs provider module matched "any"
[00000506] skins2 interface error: no suitable dialogs provider found (hint: compile the wxWidgets plugin, and make sure it is loaded properly)

vlc: pcm_plug.c:384: snd_pcm_plug_change_channels: Assertion `snd_pcm_format_linear(slv->format)' failed.

Can you please tell me how to compile vlc so that it can view wmv file?

Thank you.

Here is the configuration that I use to compile VLC:

$ ./configure --enable-x11 --enable-xvideo --disable-gtk --enable-sdl --enable-ffmpeg-faac --with-ffmpeg-mp3lame --enable-mad --enable-libdvbpsi --enable-a52 --enable-dts --enable-libmpeg2 --enable-dvdnav --enable-faad --enable-vorbis --enable-ogg --enable-theora --enable-faac --enable-mkv --enable-freetype --enable-fribidi --enable-speex --enable-flac  --enable-caca --enable-skins --enable-skins2  --enable-alsa --disable-kde --enable-qt --enable-wxwindows --enable-ncurses --enable-release

  Yes but I was using the java bindings. A friend had an flv file he wanted me to test and it worked fine for me.

  Tony,

Can you please tell me if you are compiling the build yourself? I wonder if I need to do something different during compilation.

 I am using a flv file from youtube to test.

  I am using the 0.9.0b or dev build and view it just like a normal file. I have had no issues but I used an example from a friend to test.

    Hi,

How can I use VLC to view flv file?
I have compiled vlc 0.8.6 on my fedora 5, I get the error when I try to view flv file:

vlc: pcm_plug.c:384: snd_pcm_plug_change_channels: Assertion `snd_pcm_format_linear(slv->format)' failed.
Aborted

I have compiled mplayer1.0Rc1 on the same machine, but I can use it to view the same flv file.

Can you please tell me how can I use vlc to view flv file?

Thank you.
