Okay went back one day to the 15th and it did start up but died rather colorfully with:
www.movie-list.net/classics/gettysburg.mov
As the input for network input (I removed the http since it causes it to crash) since not sure what you are doing with the interface.
I will go back even further to see if something older works.

I downloaded the latest version and it crashed upon startup (tried to access memory location ddddd)
I have visual c++ 6.0 and it launched and came up with-
Unhandled exception in vlc.exe (LIBQT4_PLGIN.DLL): 0xC0000005: Access Violation.
I will go back to an older version perhaps a few days ago maybe I will get lucky?
