  Yes, I am aware of that and I believe I tried that but it did not work. I got busy with something else and will try the latest build again in a couple of days when I get my next chance.

Did you delete vlc's plugin cache and preferences before installing 
another version. VLC is know to be sensitive to this. The 
installer/deinstaller therefor provides an option to delete those (the 
option is unchecked by default).
