Of course, VLC is licensed under GPL version 2 (or later), so any software 
that links to it, whatever the binding language, must also bz GPL'd. That 
does not rule out commercial usage (Free SAS is definitely using VLC 
commercially!), but it does forbid closed source.

C, Java, Python, ActiveX and .Net bindings, lua scripts are all carrying the 
GPL "virality".
