Guess JavaFX and the need for media support such as videos is driving some of these changes.

Perhaps this is in support of the new direction Sun Microsystems is going for new media services/apps?

Depending upon what resources Sun puts into mutimedia support and if they decide to build a mutimedia server app this should be of some interest to JVLC/VLC.

There was comments from Sun CEO about how impressed he was to be able to demo 9 videos in a java app. No mention about resolution of videos or media types (mov, avi ect) or what the bandwidth back to the source of the videos is. Important is the fact the CEO seemed highly interested in providing multimedia solutions for the internet/intranet. That may mean Sun might throw a lot of resources behind multimedia efforts.
