That ticket is about mp4 files. how do they relate ?
I have a feeling the problem is as follows. During the start of
playback of a file, a lot is going on, putting quite some stress on
the CPU. This results in images already being a bit "late" when they
are first displayed. Now since 0.9.0 we are animating the resizing of
the window. It seems that this is putting quite some extra stress on
the computer (his being a PPC), causing the images to be even more
late, and dropped by the computer. The PPC machine is a bit older, so
i'm guessing that you are a bit "easier" affected by this problem than
I am, because i have an Intel Core2Duo. Ergo, you see the problem with
xvid avi's, i only see it on HD h264 matroska files.
The seeking distortion is "normal". I tested it, and the performance
there hasn't changed much between 0.8.6 and 0.9.0
