Providing patches against an old vlc is not the best way.
The problem might already be fixed or your patch migh not apply.
You should always submit patches against git master.

The "typos" you refers to ar i believe a change of API of libx264 in
which case it's already fixed.
Also when using old version of vlc, one needs to use versions of the
libraries not younger than vlc.
