We might even consider to remove it in favour of a to-be-written  
replacement.

This code relies completely on QuickDraw for the video part (which is  
why it doesn't work at all on modern OS X version) and some ugly  
QuickTime C API remainings for audio. QTKit is probably the framework  
of choice for such a re-write.
