Well, VLC would disappears in favor of a set of distinct LibVLC interfaces. I 
don't know if people care about the ability to run more than one interface at 
a time.

There are a lot of shortcomings, some deliberate, in the current LibVLC API. 
For instance, modules and settings are completely absent as they have been too 
unstable to make an API out of them. But mainly, man power is lacking to drive 
this forward.
