I think we should find a temporary solution before the next release.
- A workaround to save the volume on quit (I've no idea about what to do).
- Disable or hide the option from the preferences until the issue is fixed.

Then, I will take a deeper look into the code to find a cleaner solution.
Perhaps by separating the runtime configuration from the saved one (in
the core side), so it could also resolve the problem from happening in
the preferences dialog (which is also affected).

Anyway feedback are welcome.
