[vlc-devel] Multimedia keys not working by default ?

Is there any specific reason, why multimedia keys (play, pause, mute,
forward ect.) are not working in ubuntu 9.04 by default ? I can
control any other player by pressing special keys on dell multimedia
keyboard, but vlc dont respond. As far as i know its also not working
on mac and windows.
