[vlc-devel] OSXCompile instructions fail when building from tarball

Hi all,
The OSXCompile wiki page instructions fail when trying to build from a tarball (vlc-1.0.3.tar.bz2 is what I am using currently, although v1.0.1 does the same). The wiki (http://wiki.videolan.org/OSXCompile) states
"Download the VLC media player source code (using Git) as described on the "Get the source" page or get a recent source tarball."
However, tarballs fail with the error
REVISION=`git describe --always` && \        cat ./extras/package/macosx/Info.plist | \        sed "s/#REVISION#/$REVISION/g" > ./tmp/extras/package/macosx/Info.plistfatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .gitmake[2]: *** [VLC.app] Error 128make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1make: *** [all] Error 2
Perhaps the wiki page should be amended (either add instructions that do allow building from tarballs, or remove reference to them and include workable build system with the tarballs themselves)...?
