 I think that the current way (ie one input_item_t having children) is
fine to do so. Only the playlist code would need to be updated to take it
into account (and maybe a way to avoid the input_thread_t to issue a warning).

I think that the alternative locations are not that relevent to the input code
which only has to read the uri it has been given.
