I agree that lawsuits are daft and the GPL allows you to re-sell
anyway so its a bit of a null point.

As you said earlier it could be worth checking where the link comes
from and redirecting to a page showing the latest version and a
message about scammers.

Its not hard to code a little php to do this, there might even be
something freely available in a script repository.
