This patch was no good (API breakage without #if #else is not good).
Attached is an updated version which is hopefully better, but will require
the contribs to be updated again before it will work. The reason is that
libass has only very recently started including a version number in its
header. The version of libass in contrib seems to be from before this
version number was added so there is no version to check against.

Again, I've only checked that this actually compiles. I haven't got any test
files to check that it actually works.
