Without testing but from looking at the set for a minute or two I think
I'll take subX on the grounds that a default skin should look spiffy but
present nothing fancy so that the least amount of people gets confused.
SIMPly is perhaps a bit too minimalistic for a default but with a bit of
pixel tinkering could be fairly nice nonetheless.

Failing that, I dislike the brown in dark pepper (if that's really
transparant it's not an issue) and the layout needs a little work
but it does show promise.

I like a layout of |< << |> >> >| better than |> [] <<>> |<>| especially
because in the latter the back-and-forth buttons' layout is inconsistent
with the playlist navigation buttons (<<=>> vs. <<>> and |<>|) and also
because it deviates from what you usually see nowadays (ICBW here).

Here one could venture  << |\ ++ >>
to do something like :  |< |/ ++ >|

(You need to use a fixed-width font and to not reflow messages
for the above to be intelligible.)
