IMHO, it would be more natural to split it like many other vendors do:

I agree on all of that.
I agree we don't need a "My computer" top category, and I would like to
clarify further what to do with it's subitems as you listed them.
I think media dirs shall be grouped under their common parent - the parent
and the media dirs all being in the selector, only further children in the
right panel.
Screen capture shall be a single item in the selector - it's subitems in the
right panel.
Shall we list children of discs, capture devs and MTP together directly on
top level or under their respective categories?
Likewise: shall we list subitems of Bonjour, SAP, UPnP directly under "My
Network [or so]", or under their respective categories?
At both last questions I tend towards the first of the two options.
