Alright, I think we need a clear decision now:
all SDs in left playlist column by default: yes or no?
equals: SD activation menu: yes or no?

If the answer to the first is no, then we could also look for alternatives
to SD menu:
- popup SD menu when right-clicking left playlist column?
- drop down menu somewhere else on the playlist dialog?
- embedding the popup menu right into the left playlist column (it's
possible to put any widget into tree views as items)
-...?

In any case I think accessing any SD should be quick and always at hand.
(Not needing a route to preferences...)
