- gcc 4.4 is supposed to be faster, if I read correctly mike's posts
- gcc 4.4 is the first version to be supported by mingw
- as 1.0.5 doesn't improve a lot of stuff over 1.0.3, it will be easier
to track regressions than between 1.0.x-gcc-4.2 and 1.1.0-gcc-4.4
- should fix x264 encoding

- regressions can happen. That is clear. And they can be quite
important. Ramiro (from FFmpeg) is testing fate with mingw-gcc4.4
this week end, btw.
However, I prefer tracking those regressions between 2 releases that
are not that different than between 2 majors version where so many
factor can be at fault.
