I am on Ubuntu 8.10 right now.
I upgraded pkg-config to the latest version, and I have no warning
anymore (thanks!).
But still :

configure.ac:419: error: m4_undefine: undefined macro:
AC_DEPLIBS_CHECK_METHOD
configure.ac:419: the top level
autom4te: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 1
aclocal: /usr/local/bin/autom4te failed with exit status: 1

I also upgraded m4 to the latest version to be sure...
