#1 .vlt files can be located anywhere. No restriction at all.

#2 I think \ must be escaped on Windows at the command prompt, which 
given the following :

C:\vlc-1.1.0-win32>vlc -I skins2
--skins2-last=c:\\vlc-1.1.0-win32\\skins\\default2.vlt

#3 Anyway, a crash is a problem. a bug report should be created if a crash occurs.
