I am personally not an inconditional fan of using str_format(), especially 
within the output pipelines (video, audio, streaming). str_format() only 
interoperates correctly with the VLC media player playlist; it fails with VLM 
or the LibVLC programming interface. Futhermore it introduces a pitfall for 
shell scripts around VLC: the output file paths must be percent-escaped.

In my opinion, if str_format() is really useful still, it should be made 
optional.
