Cleanup is nice.

Mind if I ask a stupid question - since it seems this feature is not
wanted in the library, how should a module create threads if it needs
to? Or is this discouraged?

(No particular need at the moment, but I've been considering it for
accelerating Phosphor, since the processing for each plane is
independent of the others.)
