Hmm. I don't actually know if/when this is a problem. Does that mean UTF-8 
sequences of 4-bytes are not supported either?

VLC may be using UTF-16 rather liberally, even in case where UCS-2 would be 
correct or sufficient. So I cannot really evaluate if/where this is a problem.
