[vlc-devel] question on motion detect filter

Hello all.
I noticed that in this commit:

The motion detect filter was changed from one that "received input
boxes" to one that "draws white squares around detected motion areas"
Anybody know the motivation for this change originally?
I'm looking for a filter that basically "allows frames through if
recent motion was detected"--I assume patches in that regard might be
acceptable?
