Ah, obviously. Yes, that explains the issue.

Since this code should be in a separate .so for ABI reasons anyway, you 
can disregard this patch (as in, keep it in the stack of temporary hacks 
needed for testing this at the moment, but don't consider applying it to 
the main git repo).
