There *is* error reporting by virtue of return-codes and API documentation.

I think you are referring to your previous request to add messages to the
log under error conditions. My reading of Rémi's reply to you is that such
logging is not necessary in this case so I have not included it.

If I am subsequently told that the patch will not be merged without such
log messages, then I will of course add them.
