Hi all,
http://wiki.videolan.org/Deinterlacing#VLC_settings
has been updated based on this (pretty old) entry by Laurent in git log:
---8<---8<---8<---
commit f96b075043c421fb6466829a15ae0c8792b8ffe8
Author: Laurent Aimar <fenrir at videolan.org>
Date: Tue Oct 6 22:32:20 2009 +0200
Implemented auto deinterlace mode.
The detection is based on the progressive/interlaced flags
transported at
the codec level. As such, it is not really reliable (for 25fps at
least).
As soon as a picture is detected as interlaced, the configured
deinterlace
mode is applied. After 30s of progressive video, the filter is removed.
The hysteresis helps with unreliable interlaced flags.

Notably, this changes the recommendation from Automatic to If You Want
It Done Right... (TM)
Also, included a verbatim copy of the last two cited paragraphs and the
commit ID in the advanced users section.
